Watch the Lamb

Walking on the road to Jerusalem,
(예루살렘으로 가는길을 걷습니다.)

The time had come to sacrifice again,
(다시 제물을 바칠 때가 되었습니다.)

My two small sons,
(저의 두 어린 아들들,)

They walk beside me on the road,
(그들은 제 옆에서 길을 따라 걷습니다.)

The reason that they came
(그들이 가는 이유는)

was to watch the lamb.
(어린양들을 보기 위해서 였지요.)

Daddy, daddy,
("아빠, 아빠)

What will see there,
(거기서 무엇을 보게될런지)

There"s so much that we don"t understand,
(우리가 이해할 수 없는 것들이 너무도 많아요.")

So I told them of Moses
(그래서 저는 아들들에게 모세에관하여 이야기해 주었습니다.)

and father Abraham,
(그리고 아브라함에 대해서도)

Then I said dear children watch the lamb,
(그리고는 저는 저의 사랑스런 아이들에게 어린양들을 보라고 일렀습니다.)

There will be so many in Jerusalem today,
("오늘 예루살렘은 사람들이 많을거야.)

We must be sure the lamb doesn"t run away,
(우리는 양이 도망가지 못하도록 해야해")

And I told them of Moses
(그러고는 저는 아이들에게 모세이야기를 들려주었습니다.)

and father Abraham,
(그리고 아브라함의 이야기두요.)

Then I said dear children watch the lamb.
(그리고나서 저는 아이들에게 양을 지켜보라고 일렀습니다.)

When we reached the city,
(우리가 도시에 도착했을 때)

I knew something must be wrong,
(뭔가가 잘못되었다는걸 알게되었습니다.)

There were no joyful worshipers,
(기쁨에찬 참배자들이 하나도 없었습니다.)

No joyful worship songs,
(기쁜 찬송의 노래들도,)

I stood there with my children
(저는 아이들과 거기 서있었습니다.)

in the midst of angry men,
(분노한 사람들 한복판에서,)

Then I heard the crowd cry out
(저는 군중들이 소리 지르는 것을 들었습니다.)

Crucify Him.
("그를 십자가에 못박아라!")

We tried to leave the city
(우리는 그 도시를 떠나려 했습니다.)

but we could not get away,
(그러나 우린 벗어날수 없었습니다.)

Forced to play in this drama
(이 연극에 있도록 강요받았습니다.)

a part I did not wish to play,
(제가 원치 않았던 배역을 말이지요,)

Why upon this day
(왜 이날)

were men condemned to die,
(사람들은 사형을 언도 받았을까요)

Why were we standing here,
(왜 우리들은 여기 서있었을까요,)

Where soon they would pass by.
(그들은 곧 지나가게 될 여기에...)

I looked and said, even now they come,
(저는 보고 말했습니다, "바로 지금 그들이 온다!")

The first one cried for mercy,
(첫번째 사람은 울며 자비를 구했습니다.)

The people gave him none,
(사람들은 그에게 전혀 자비를 베풀지않았습니다.)

The second one was violent,
(두번째 사람은 거칠었습니다.)

He was arrogant and loud,
(그는 오만하고 시끄러웠습니다.)

I still hear his angry voice
(저는 아직도 그의 화난 목소리가 생생합니다.)

screaming at the crowd,
(군중에게 소리를 지르는...)

Then someone said there"s Jesus,
(그리고는 누군가가 예수가 온다고 말했습니다.)

I scarce believed my eyes,
(저는 제 두 눈을 믿기 힘들었습니다.)

A man so badly beaten,
(심하게 맞은 한 남자,)

He barely looked alive,
(그는 겨우 숨이 붙어있는것 같아보였습니다.)

Blood poured from His body,
(피가 그의 몸에서 쏟아져 나왔습니다.)

From the forms upon His brow,
(그의 이마의 상처들로 부터,)

Running down the cross,
(십자가를 흘러서,)

Falling to the ground.
(바닥에까지 떨어집니다)

I watched Him as He struggled,
(그가 힘들어하는 것을 저는 지켜보았습니다.)

I watched Him as He fell,
(저는 그가 넘어지는것을 보았습니다)

The cross came down upon His back,
(십자가가 그의 등에 올려지는 것을 보았습니다.)

The crowd began to yell,
(군중들은 고함치기 시작했습니다.)

In that moment I felt such agony,
(그 순간 저는 심한 고통을 느꼈습니다)

In that moment I felt such loss,
(그 때 그순간 저는 상실감을 느꼈습니다)

Till a Roman soldier grabbed my arm
(그 때 로마병사 한명이 저의 팔을 붙잡고는)

and screamed, you, carry His cross.
("너, 네가 그의 십자가를 져라!" 라고 제게 소리쳤습니다.)

At first I tried to resist him,
(처음에는 저는 거부하려고 했습니다.)

Then his hand reached for his cross,
(그리고 그의 손으로 십자가를 잡았습니다.) <- 이부분 해석이 매우 어색하군요.

So I knelt and took
(그래서 저는 무릎꿇고서 받았습니다.)

the cross from the Lord,
(주님의 십자가를...)

I placed it on my shoulder,
(저는 그것을 제 어깨위에 매었습니다.)

And started down the street,
(그리고서 거리를 내려가기 시작했습니다.)

The blood that he"d been shedding
(그가 흘리고 있었던 피가)

was running down my cheek.
(저의 뺨을 타고 흘러내렸습니다.)

They led us to Golgotha,
(그들은 저희들을 골고다로 데려갔습니다.)

They drove nails
(그들은 못을)

deep in His feet and hands,
(그의 발과 손에 깊히 박아넣었습니다.)

Yet upon the cross I heard Him pray
(십자가 위에 계실때 저는 그분의 기도를 들었습니다.)

Father, forgive them.
("아버지, 저들을 용서하소서")

Oh, never have I seen such love
(오, 저는 그러한 사랑을 본 적이 없습니다.)

in any other eyes,
(다른 어떤이의 눈에서도...)

Into thy hands I commit my spirit
("당신의 손에 저의 영혼을 맡깁니다.")

He prayed and the He died,
(그는 기도했고 돌아가셨습니다.)

I stood for what seemed like years,
(저는 몇 년 동안이나 서있는 듯 했습니다.)

I"d lost all sense of time
(저는 시간감각을 잃어버렸습니다.)

until I felt to tiny hands
(작은 손길을 느끼게되기 전 까지요)

holding tight to mine,
(저의 손을 꼭 붙잡고)

The children stood there weeping,
(아이들은 서서 울먹였습니다.)

I heard the oldest say,
(큰 아이가 말했습니다.)

Father please forgive us,
("아빠 저희를 용서해주세요,)

the lamb ran away.
(양이 도망가버렸어요.")

Daddy, daddy,
("아빠, 아빠)

What have we seen here,
(우리가 여기서 보았던것은,)

There"s so much that we don"t understand,
(우리가 이해할 수 없는 것들이 너무나 많아요.")

So I took them in my arms,
(그래서 저는 그들을 팔로 껴안았습니다.)

And we turned and faced the cross,
(그리고 우리는 돌아서서 십자가를 마주했습니다.)

Then I said dear children
(그러고는 저는 사랑스런 아이들에게 말했습니다.)
